Overall Planning and Evaluation of Kitchen Waste and Bulk Waste Recycling and Reuse

Absrtact
The recycling and reuse of kitchen waste and bulk waste has been practiced in Taiwan for many years. In addition to the increasing of recycling rate, the main focuses of such efforts are in improving reuse ratio and economic benefits of reuse to ensure the sustainability of recyclers. To this end, this project has completed the following tasks: (1) Conducted the performance evaluation of 25 counties/cities’ kitchen waste and bulk waste recycling programs; (2) Organized one national kitchen waste and one bulk waste recycling and reuse practice review meeting respectively; (3) Completed 15 performance evaluations of county/city(town/city) kitchen waste composting plants and bulk waste recycling and reuse plants, and assisted them in planning for reuse channels and improving the product quality; (4) Complied the county/city kitchen waste composting products’ test results, and obtained the results on most economic sampling frequency, reuse means and effects; (5) Complied counties/cities’ kitchen waste recycling status data and analyzed local governments’ implementation cost effectiveness and future trend; (6) Completed the establishment of integrated system among EPA, implementation agencies and private sector, in order to encourage the participation of private enterprise and integrate available private and public resources; (7) Organized 6 best operating practice demonstrations for the relevant workers of the local governments’ kitchen waste and bulk waste recycling plants; (8) Assisted in the update and maintenance of EPA’s kitchen waste and bulk waste resource recycling system and web pages (both Chinese and English versions).
